Despite how cold hearted and gross your position is, Spiritleaf is indeed on the hook. These franchisee owners can't pay rent forever, the vast majority are average income making Canadians that got duped by a conman and sadly dumped their life savings into an extremely questionable operation based on best case scenarios which obviously now aren't happening. The franchisees will inevitably default, and you can guess what happens next. 

Seriously, if you are reading this, put your greed aside and think logically about what's going to happen. if you were a Spiritleaf franchisee owner, would you spend $4000 a month leasing empty space knowing now that there's a very strong liklihood that your store will never open in the next 18 months? And how long can you keep it going up for?
