Why would any sane shareholder sell his shares below $16.5 per share knowing that the company itself is willing to pay him that much and that the SIB expires tomorrow. Short sellers knew that most brokers stopped taking tender offers so people can’t buy the shares at market price and sell them back to the company. The way is therefore cleared for them to scare the existing and reluctant shareholders while forcing the price down to put their margin accounts back into softer shades of red and avoid margin calls and account liquidations.
The SIB results will show us what tactics will be available to them for the near future but in my view they are just binding their time.
