I still remember how they promised Saddam Hussein had extensive stocks of WMD. At the time mainstream media gave their enthusiastic stamp of approval. We all know what happened next. The CIA cannot be given free rein to decide foreign policy. I’m not defending the Saudis, but it is a huge country, and it is entirely possible a senior intelligence official would take it upon themselves to initiate a targeted killing. If it had worked out, perhaps they would be heroes. As it is, they’re now zeroes. Literally.
