It is now crystal clear why we are at the top of the pyramid in terms of quality and price, but bottom in terms of share price.
Senior executives are well paid. They should be. Though business acumen is important, integrity is vital. A CEO is well compensated by the company as he or she is expected to eat and breathe the company 24 hours a day...the ultimate company person. It’s all about maximizing shareholder value honestly. With integrity comes trust; and lack of trust is what was (past tense) devaluing our stock price.
If a CEO makes an honest mistake, and they step up and admit it, they will survive. I look at CEOs like Jeff Bezos. You know he is all Amazon. My ultimate CEO is Richard Branson. I am a huge fan. Not only is he the entrepreneur’s entreprenur, he is genuinely a great person of integrity. I’ve read all the books about him, I see the causes he supports. He actually made aviation profitable! He’s flamboyant, a risk taker, and has made mistakes. But you cannot help but like him...you cannot help but trust him. He’s looking out for Virgin...and in the process is successful. But he’s not focused on himself but the company...customers, employees, shareholders. With every smile you know Branson is thinking beyond his own personal gain...that’s a sidebar, not his primary goal.
Aphria has the goods. We are hands down the best producer with the most potential. Friday’s conference call was the turning point. It’s the transition from our executives being focused on personal gain to focused on what’s best for Aphria, its customers, employees, and shareholders.
The next CEO has to be all Aphria without a hint of a personal agenda. He or she (I would love a female...great statement) has to personable, likeable, and most of all trustworthy. A version of Mr. Branson. They are out there.
Once we instill principles, trustworthiness and integrity into the C-suite we will truly be on our way to the Moon!
