You might ask yourself whether Newmont paid a rational price, or whether they or another party would still pay that price, or to what degree the fundamentals have deteriorated due to (i) a more than $100 million cost overrun, and (ii) three separate incidents of narco-terrorism in which ten company employees have been brutally murdered, relative to the decrease in the market cap of the company.  The gold price has been relativey flat, and the exploration results have been incremental.
