I have never fully understood the concept but people can borrow a stock with a high interest rate from a broker and then if the stock loses value they can make money on the difference. If the stock goes up in price they are screwed though. They have to give the stock back eventually and that can be referred to the short squeeze when they are all trying to cover I think. Maybe someone can explain it better lol.
