RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Why speculate about a company that do's zip The fact is that they have, it is absolutely viable, it's ready for market according to NRCAN, and is considered part of an efficient SAGD solution according to CANMET. It's even had a full life cycle assessment. What more does the world need? Only the AB oil companies can really say why they aren't knocking down doors to buy it but my guess is that their heads are still in the sand about carbon regulations and public opinion. They're not being strategic because a signed contract today means they won't have the solution in place until late 2020, likely into 2021. They should be thinking about deploying carbon capture (and related infrastructure) now. So maybe that reality hasn't hit for them, and when it does they won't necessarily choose CST's tech but they'll have to deal with their emissions problem or go extinct. I have faith in CST but I have serious doubts about the fossil fuel industry's ability to wake up and smell their own fumes. The fossil fuel industry has become one of the most hated industries in the world. If they want to turn that around, they need to demonstrate a clear willingness to clean up their act or they will have a hard time swaying public opinion. Talk about uphill battles! And without stable carbon regulation, it's that much harder for everyone. The only thing CST can do is fish where the fish are - go where the money is. Quebec has cap and trade and there's a good/improving business case for carbon capture and reuse there.

Side note: Buffet's recent investment in Suncor is interesting given that Suncor has become known for their focus on sustainability (and - oh yeah - they happen to have partnered with CST on VCQ). Influencers like him could easily sway investors away from the fossil fuel companies who refuse to change, to help shift public opinion on the "better oil companies" to invest in while keeping a clean conscience on the environment.
