As you sre well aware, there is a supply deficit in Pd. However, it’s the impending strike in South Africa which has sent end users frantically scrabbling for whatever they can find. By the way, price has gone up another $11 oz since my previous post. This demonstrates how tight supply really is. There is a delicate balance between supply and demand of Pd required for ICE engines that is easily upset by the relatively narrow pipeline. There are not enough producers, and of those available, many are only marginally profitable, or losing money. New PGM mines are not coming on stream. If gasoline engines are not replaced as quickly as many believe, we may be looking at shortages over the next few years.
