Aphria Inc. APHA

Aphria, which is headquartered in Ontario, produces and sells medicinal and recreational cannabis. The company operates through retail and wholesale channels in Canada and internationally. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 countries outside of Canada. However, it does not have exposure to the U.S. CBD or THC markets due to the constraints of federal prohibition. It has some U.S. exposure through the acquisition of SweetWater, a craft brewer

RE:Sales of Cannabis

RE:Sales of CannabisI agree that it would be ideal if the retail price for government regulated product was closer to the black market price. I just wanted to add that there are a couple of other considerations that oftentimes might be overlooked when deciding where to purchase. I know some might laugh at this. But remember that the licenced producers are subject to the additional costs of meeting Health Canada regulations, which, supposedly and hopefully, are necessary to protect the health interests of Canadians. Also, I don't believe the vast majority of black market dealers are charging GST and remitting that to the CRA (lol I know its funny but its true). I also doubt any of them are reporting their profits on their income tax returns (haha yeah thats funny too) and paying their dues. I am not sure if the retail price through government approved retail outlets have any other taxes built into the price in the same way that alcohol, tobacco or gasoline might have. All of those taxes do indirectly work to better our infrastructure and public services-- education, healthcare, etc etc. so there are societal benefits to buying legal. Eliminating or even reducing the black market isn't a high priority right now but it might become more of one in the future.
