Electric heat is one of the least efficiant ways to heat a home and would cause more of a carbon footprint if everyone were heating their homes with electric. I also never remembered every heating my home with coal. Maybe you're thinking about the 1700's? Throw another lump of coal on the fire scrooge. It's going to be tough to compete with the low prices of natural gas. You should be focusing your energy on ways to capture and technologies to improve natural gas for heating. That will be the change you see.
