RE:RE:RE:Recieved my Proxy for Newmont/GoldCorp My package arrived and I voted yes, along with the other 97%. The idea of owning a portion of the Barrick NEM jv was exciting, plus owning part of a company that seems to be a lot more on the ball than G was. The higher divvie helped too, athough I am also not clear on how the US tax thing will reduce it on an after-tax basis.
I don't know if that means 97%of people who could vote, voted yes, or 97% of votes received were yes. I should look into it I suppose....logically I can't see that 97% of eligible voters voted - that would be a first...
anyway, reading the voting package, it appears that we Canadian G holders, when the shares are exchanged for NEM shares, will have to declare a capital gaiin or loss at the time, and record the exchange price as the acb for the NEM shares. Is that correct? Am I reading that right? I always thought that an exchange of shares did not create a capital gain or loss until the new shares were sold. Perhaps it is because the NEM shares are US-based?
