River - Scotia is OK for my purposes, but then I'm no rapid-fire daytrader. I expect that all the bank-owned platforms are all pretty much the same, and I've developed a comfort level/inertia hurdle with Scotia.
That said, they are glacially slow in coming out with good new ideas like, for instance, US $ RRSPs. Also, if you're interested in anything more than the occasional flutter on the short side, look elsewhere.
Years ago I had an account with Interactive Brokers. Long story, I no longer do but would recommend them if you're an active trader type, or want access to Aus, HK, Europe etc. Back in the day when I was a customer they had a monthly fee of $10.
