RE:RE:Alberta ElectionCJ and near all intermediate Canadian energy stocks trade at ridiculously low multiples of cash flow, free cash flow, per flowing and vs reserves. There are multiple reasons for that but, having the fox in the hen house certainly does not help or NDP in Alberta.
Since the begining, she has been opposed to energy development in Alberta with various measures and really did not support any pipeline development other than offering a carbon tax to Trudeau to get TransMountain going and we all saw what happened.
Like any good socialist, she reacted when she saw government revenues decline to a trickle by imposing production quotas to prop up royalty revenues. It was a necessary measure but, the root cause is years of trying to strangle the industry by cutting off new egress. Where was the outcry about cancellation of Energy East and Northern Gateway (best project of all)?
So you are probably correct that a NDP win could keep stocks and valuations as is, which is terrible by the way. Job creation would also remain minimal in the province and likely declining in the E&P/drilling sector.
On the other hand, a pro business, pro energy government can only help with growth which is badly needed. Policies matter.
