Sherritt's Position re Title III (Bloomberg) -- Canadian miner Sherritt International Corp.
remains committed to its operations in Cuba despite a tightening
of restrictions by the Trump administration under the Helms-
Burton Act.
* “Implementation of Title III is not expected to have any
material impact on Sherritt or our operations in Cuba,”
spokesman Joe Racanelli says Wednesday in emailed statement
* “We will continue to operate business as usual, focusing on
reaching our nickel/cobalt production targets, reducing our debt
and completing our Block 10 drilling”
* Sherritt has been mining nickel in eastern Cuba since 1994 and
also has oil-and-gas operations near Havana. The Toronto-based
firm has already been penalized under Title IV of Helms-Burton,
with executives banned from traveling to the U.S. as a result
