Financial PostNice little nudge in the Financial Post this week:
Midway through the week, we attended the Future State of Cannabis keynoted by Drake Sutton-Shearer. Hiscompany PRHBTD builds mainstream-focused consumer brands and produces original content. During this standing-room-only talk, one of the key takeaways was the importance of trusted brands in the future and that mainstream consumers have yet to anoint their preferred brands. It was interesting to learn more about companies like CBD pioneer Charlotte’s Web (CWEB ) and hemp therapy brand Hempathy in addition to the modern design and packaging of THC-focused brands like Dfonc Chocolate and how some of the retail experiences in the U.S. and Canada are creating elegant and inviting environments for shoppers. We also learned that boutique distribution and curation companies like Captiva Verde (PWR) seem to be making inroads in Mexico to introduce cannabis, hemp and CBD brands to health and wellness seekers, which was evidenced by the discussion following the keynote. Craig Binkley, the President of PRHBTD’s consumer brands division, interviewed a young Mexican father, Johan Bueno, about his family’s journey with his son’s epilepsy. It was inspiring to hear how Johan had discovered hemp-based CBD.
