Many analysts use different metrics for payout ratio. I suspect the discrepancy is using earnings vs adjusted cash flow. The normal metric is ACFFO. RBC Direct Investing has the IPL ACFFO payout ratio at 80%. I usually trust them.
Now having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if IPL did cut. These companies go on saying there's no way they are going to cut and actually keep on raising until all of a sudden, it's a surprise cut and a bunch of blah, blah, blah. (ie - see the lying sack of sh*ts at Altagas).
I'm long IPL and will continue to hold even through a cut because of Heartland and other future stuff.

Is one basing the payout on earnings AFTER the dividend is paid and the other BEFORE the dividend is paid?
That's the only answer I can come up with. Can someone help me out here.
