Beetaloo sub-basin exploration about to become reality
JUNE 05, 2019
NT Primary Industry and Resources Minister Paul Kirby says exploration in the Beetaloo sub-basin is about to become a reality.

He said with the final regulatory measures to allow fracking to resume in the Northern Territory just weeks away from being in place, gas companies are preparing to resume Beetaloo Exploration Project activities.

Origin will have an information session tomorrow for businesses detailing its intentions.

Specialised scopes of work for drilling and completion activities have already been tendered and awarded by Origin, which expects to begin exploration in the coming months.

Mr Kirby said the information session is designed to provide contractors with an opportunity to outline their involvement in the project and to facilitate introductions between the NT business sector, awarded contractors and Origin.

“Origin will also continue to work with local industry organisations and the NT Government to identify capability within the NT and maximise opportunities for local contracts and employment through the Beetaloo Exploration Project,” he said

“I have been in discussions with Origin and all gas companies about how we can maximise opportunities for local contracts and employment in the NT.

“Onshore gas will create a wide range of job opportunities.”

Mr Kirby said on the back of onshore gas advancements the Government is working with a number of proponents to advance a range of new projects.
