SustainabilityGood points Ragingman. We've made a lot of progress in Canada with tougher environmental laws and regulation to reduce our footprint, especially per barrel in the oilsands. The population of the world is around 7.5 billion now, and oceans and rivers can no longer be used as dumping grounds. I like the Canadian solution to pipelines and oil supply, but Canada is huge and every province has its own political issues. Few people want pipelines or oil refineries in their backyard or crossing their water sources. There is a lot of hypocrisy and education is required to make people understand that because oil is so important to modern life (transportation, agriculture, chemicals, plastics, heating, etc) we have to accept the absolute need to move it safely, ie by pipelines.
