Prudent financial management in the present market dictates blowing down PDP reserves, using the resultant cash flow to pay down debt and buy back shares but management needs growth to fund their personal remuneration. 

Investors are tired of energy energy management looking after themselves and this write off of oil and gas may be permanent unless management begins putting shareholder value before personal entitlements.
