A preliminary assessment and site inspection conducted in 2004 pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) revealed that hazardous substances in concentrations exceeding normal background levels for arsenic, lead, and uranium exist in the waste rock and soil, and radiation emissions in levels exceeding background are occurring. Although not currently on the National Priority List, cleanup and other remediation costs are unknown and offer potentially enormous financial liability to any owner or Potentially Responsible Party". Bullet point ( 6 ) iv: " employing a contemporary and commercially proved solvent extraction for the production of REE oxides,".-------- Bullet point ( 6 ) viii: " The Bokan Mountain property is a historical uranium mine The Bokan Mountain property is a historical uranium mine. To date no radiation surveys have been conducted, and ventilation alone may not be enough to mitigate the dangers to the workers. Although not currently on the National Priority List, cleanup and other remediation costs are unknown and offer potentially enormous financial liability to any owner or Potentially Responsible Party (PRP)".
