:Definitely when a solid state lithium battery is proven to be commercially viable. It will happen, question is when?"
It has been proven in lab condition in Germany. Of course, practical use is superior, but now labs are not like 40 years ago. I worked in Multimedia industry for awhile. Simulation tech. is very impressive and reliable. Batteries are also fraction of cost of EV is only fraction of total vehicle cost. If soldi state increases range as they clam. Extra 5-10k can be easily abosorbed by luxury vehicles (Mercedes). Then, manfuacturers will find the a way to cut cost and bring it to broader mainstream.
Just like Tesla did, Roadster-TS-T3
As important, solid state will spread the use of batteries (truck, trains, plains) and many of present EV users will switch to new model.
The question is when Li demand will rise. It will happen before mass production, battery manufacturers will have tbuild inventories. Now Li prices is probably near the bottom and when prices are fallen, manufactureres delay buy waiting for further fall.
When buyers will believe bottom is reached, they will start to buy and spot will go up, many will rush into market to buy before prices go up, pushing them forward.
Unfortunate herd mentality. Now we are in negative (for us) hed mental state. Change could happen overnight. That is the problem with predictions. Mature metal miners have great tools, like futures and hedging, Li is still not there and sharp fluctuation is the norm, so far.
