It was a Liberal government in Ottawa under Louis St-Laurent in 1956 (google 1956 Pipeline Debate), affectionately nicknamed Uncle Louie, which rammed through a law authorizing construction of the first Trans Canada Pipeline bringing western crude to Eastern Canada, using a longer all Canadian route. As a reward for their foresight the Liberal government was booted out in the next election in 1957 by the Diefenbaker Conservatives. Every federal and provincial head, to a certain extent, is a follower of public opinion and not a leader of public opinion, witness Jason Kenney, Horgan and Legault. They are each attuned to public opinion in their base constituencies. Thankfully, we don't all think alike. I get 3 slops and a flop, and the universe is unfolding as it should. Don't worry, be happy!
