If they were alternatives I would agree with you, but they are separate issues. If and when we have a meaningful cost for carbon pollution LaFarge is still going to weigh carbon capture against levies and offsets. Meanwhile they can get paid to burn a post consumer waste that is otherwise uneconomic to deal with and a public health hazard (mosquito breeding pools, tire fires).
This issue bugs me because I've seen first hand how NIMBYs kill practical economic environmental initiatives. I've seen them successfully shift the media discussion from science and demonstrated technology (facts) to emotion and self interest, it's the same game as populist politicians play.

You used the word cancer, where did that come from? Let's keep the discussion to facts.
