Aphria Inc. APHA

Aphria, which is headquartered in Ontario, produces and sells medicinal and recreational cannabis. The company operates through retail and wholesale channels in Canada and internationally. Aphria is a main distributor of medical cannabis to Germany and has operations in over 10 countries outside of Canada. However, it does not have exposure to the U.S. CBD or THC markets due to the constraints of federal prohibition. It has some U.S. exposure through the acquisition of SweetWater, a craft brewer

Demolition Derby

Demolition DerbyThe industry reminds me of a demolition derby. LP’s going every which way, running into each other, some going up in smoke limping around etc. As investors, we picked our car and remain on the sidelines speculating which one will keep running. At some point the dust must settle and the company that navigates the field best will emerge. Many are beat up and running out of gas. However, before they fizzle out, they are still in the game, so expect some engine hits. The industry is full of cheap shot artists and there are alliances with financial institutions and brokerage houses that will do everything possible to keep their car running.  Bottom line is execution and until anyone can show me another company executing like Aphria I will stay put. Painting flames on your car might be perceived as important and does have some value, but at some point you have to look under the hood.
