I have a theory on this...really the amount of shorts are not that big. So, if you had a group of "pooled investors" with deep pockets and they shorted 10% or 20% of their funds - just in case the harvest was poor they have hedged their position.
There is a greater chance that the harvest would be a success, so even if the shorts have to be covered and it pushes the SP up....they still win more than they lose.
If the harvest is good and we will know soon, the SP will rise and the daily volume will be higher very soon....IMHO
