RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:who will budge first
you think that wfp will spend that ...they still have chain i think at one of their places....they are still 20 years behind at some mills.

  First it is not spending,  It is investing for a better ROI. And a higher ROE.   There still has to be some employees but theri numbers will steadily be reduced with no loss in production as the changes take place.  They have already closed Naniamo and kept output the same by increasing production at other mills with upgrades.

Rember this C&P;

Western Forest Products Inc. (TSX:WEF) says it's indefinitely curtailing operations at one of its mills on Vancouver Island.
   The company is closing the Somass sawmill in Port Alberni.

Western intends to offer severance to the 77 employees at the mill. The union was hoping for a different outcome.    "We would much rather see that it was gonna carry on working," said Norm Macleod, president of the local Steelworkers union.
      The company said it is focused on cost reductions to remain competitive, and the decision came amid a lack of ability to operate efficiently, as well as uncertainty caused by duties on shipping from Canada into the U.S.

Lots of workers lost their jobs.    More of the same is comming.  They stated in the report.  Any investment in Canada will be technoligical.   That means handling tasks where possible with machines rather than manpower.

   The report also suggests further investment in the US where Taxes are lower,  Tariffs are obliterated,  Business friendly government, less regulation resulting in higher profit for the company.     WEF can send their raw log exports to their own mills in the US if they choose rather than China or other countries.

  I look at the future,  The reality of what is comming down the pipe.   Not like some in denial who look at things, as they hope they will be .    Automobiles used to be built on a manned assembly line.   Today computerized robots have replaced much of the work force.
    It is comming to the Lumber industry as well.   You can count on it.  Times are changing,     Just open your eyes and look at the changes already made over the last 30 plus years.

  Business is about making money,   Not about being santa to employees.   Employees are simply a spoke in the wheel.   Dealt with like any other segment of the enterprise.  if they create to much adversity or a hinderance.  Seek ways to replace as many as possible with something more compatible.
