RE:RE:RE:RE:The ironyWestern offered steelworkers binding arbitration and the Union walked, WEF left the door open if they changed their mind wished to explore how it would work out. Or return to any other form of bargaining mediartors or not. Wef also laid out what they would like to see the new agreement contain. A contract similar or same as interior USW mill have would be acceptable. It's a good agreement providing proper working conditions, While at the same time some thing the mills can live with going forward in view of higher future operational costs
The other thing is the US election less than 1 year out. Depending on which party wins it may have a very negative effect on the economy and the housing market. So perhaps they should operate the mills while they can.
Presently for Western and it's employees Having an income is a bird in hand
USW Leaders know it will be a slim Christmas for their members and after the last quarterly report. Are no doubt aware there is a limit WEF will front. And that unlike it's members WEF still has a cashflow to carry it through for an extended period if need be.
I expect mediation will produce an agreement in the near term probably covering a 5 year term.
