RE:BC GOVT GOING TO CHINAIt's old news G/B The BC govt has been trying to suck up to China for close to a year. When Canadian /China relations tumbled after the arrest of Hawawi CFO Meng Wanzou. The government and forest industry execs have normally been present at the Sino wood forum. But last year stupidly government snubed China by cancelling out.
China lumber imports from Canada as a result dropped off by at least five percent. The first time exports fell in over ten years. Was not a smart move Horgan. Now they are going in damage control.
They will come back spouting, they made new deals for the lumber industry, when actually any orders are an attempt to recapture what they ignorantly lost last year.
Government is not saying why they are going so they can spin it as positive as they can on returning. It is pretty obvious to anyone who's memory span is longer than a few weeks. They Lost 5% of lumber exports last year after acting arrogrant, This year going again and taking 35 forest industry executives with them in an attempt to get back wat they previousely lost.
Even if they did recover the 5% It still does not remedy the damage the NDP inflicted on the mills by driving operation costs up as they have. Nor does it replace the recinded AAC volume which would have allowed expansion and new mills they could have built for coastal timber.
