The Economist
There's an article in the Nov 14 edition about the Semafo attack, artisanal mining in Burkina Faso and jihadist influence. Interesting factoid - Mali thought to be largest global producer in 13 th century. As per usual, the magazine has an opinion on problem solution.
I have a growing suspicion that "Semafo" going forward is going to be a semi-toxic name with a more-than-usual discount. I have opined elsewhere there are too many small and mid-cap producers in this part of the world. I think Semafo should spearhead a consolidation effort to form a million or two annual ounce producer. Use some of the admin. savings of joining togeether 4 or 5 companies to fund a bad-azz mercenary security force.
