RE:here is a good example of a sample letter for our MPS

RE:here is a good example of a sample letter for our MPSI'm no political expert and am open to hearing from anyone who is. But here are my thoughts.

I, of course, support any lobbying initiative. I think the company is involved in a formal one but a grassroots one could never hurt. Someone starts a petition ill sign it.

The effectiveness of one would likely be greatly diminished by practical politics, IMO.

So here's the situation. We need the feds to take the initiative to quash an antiquated part of the criminal code. In doing so, they will manage to permit an activity that can be taxed to fund healthcare and whatever fashionable popular cause of the day. Likety split then?

Well no. Our current government has a parliamentary minority and needs support from other parties to pass legislation.  Politics shall be played in a more obstructionist manner than in a majority. Queue the wailing from other parties (the NDP most likely, but who knows, maybe the Tories) about how the government is making an initiative to enable alcoholic dads to gamble and take food out of their babies' mouths. (This is aside from the fact that the horses have already been long let out of the barn with racetracks, scratch tickets, VLT's and casinos)

I'm not saying its right, but I'm just saying its how the game is played. A majority government would be able to push it through quickly knowing that by next election any worryworts would be proven wrong with fearmongering  (like with weed).

And of the grassroots movement, well I assume, lets face it, its dudes like us, and mostly younger ones. I wish it weren't so, and don't like being the bearer of perceived negativity, but i dont expect urgency on the part of government to aid peeps like us in the face of other needs.  That said, have at it!!!!!
