The same companies who own mills in Alberta are running flat out. Selling their lumber into the same US market as BC without resistance or additional penalty. Stumpage in Alta. amounts to approx. $8.50 or $355 per truckload of logs. BC's NDP stumpage grab is $58 + or minus comming to $2500 per truckload. But the mills are protected with Govt. allotted TFL's and AAC quotas which are not allotted undre a bidding process.
The statement by provincial government the US would retaliate so nothing can be done is 100% false. All it would take to remedy the problem is for the NDP to change the way stumpage is applied. Even Jim Pattisson who owns Canfor has stated, The Alberta system is far superior.
Horgan is simply using that excuse as a scape goat. Peddling BS. to the majority of people who don't bother to investigate
