Good info, however, we are kinda getting off topic. The initial thought was: Should Quarterhill buy back stock with the cash on hand.
Most say yes, I say no. Keep cash on hand for aquisition.
p.s:
Capitol losses, net capital losses..... all good info, always check with revenue Canada website for futher info. It can get complicated, especially when return of capital gets involved.
Just a note in your example: Yes, you have a capital loss of $4000 * 50% = $2000 is what you can claim against any capitol gains that you have for this year.
Likewise, if you have no gains then you can either bank it for future gains or claim it against gains from the last 3 years. Again, complicated to explain.
If this makes sense good. If not, consult an accounted.
