RE:RE:RE:RE:BNN..Greg Newman discusses Vermillion energyInteresting discussion about shorting shares. It seems the rules in Canada are more lax than in the US so in fact someone could in theory short shares that didn't actually exist. This occurs in commodity futures markets the difference being the short entity must be reconcile its position or deliver the commodity in every delivery month which of course doesn't happen in the stock market. That probably needs to be changed although i imagine it is a rare occurrence that this actually happens. I am wondering why anyone holding a stock especially a traditional dividend stock such as VET would agree to lend it out in exchange for receiving an amount only equal to the dividend amount. I would want more and it would have a limited time period.
