I understand it, thus my comments about commodities vs stocks. I have no problem with people doing it but have never shorted a stock myself. My concern is with the difference between Canada and US as Canadian system as in Canada a brokerage could lend stock not only that they have in inventory but stock that they felt they had a reasonable chance of obtaining. Too open to abuse.
