Curious about what’s in store for Cannabis 2.0? Read on to find out when edibles (including beverages), topicals and extracts (including vapes) will be available for purchase in Ontario.
While Cannabis 2.0 categories like edibles, extracts and topicals have been legalized in Canada since October 17, 2019, many Ontarians have noticed that these products have yet to hit legal retail shelves or OCS.ca.
This is due to the regulatory timelines and approval processes put in place by Health Canada to ensure new cannabis products are safe for consumption. In order to legally ship and sell products, licensed producers must first apply for an amended license, submit products for a 60-day review period, and finally pass quality assurance standards. When products meet these criteria, they may be introduced to the market.
When Will Cannabis 2.0 Products Be Available?
The earliest possible date that Cannabis 2.0 products will be legally available for sale in Ontario is the week of January 6th, 2020. Products will first appear in retail stores and then on OCS.ca as early as January 16th. As different producers are at varying stages of the licensing process outlined above, products will see a staggered release throughout the first few months of the year.
