How much power do we useI thought this may interest as the public seem to think we can just swap over to electric cars with out any extra power grid - I am an advocate of Thorium power which is a green form of nuclear power and I was working out how many power stations would we need to cover everything . A thorium or any power station normally produce about 1GW of power. At the moment in the UK our power stations produce about 20 GW of power. this is for all type of power stations - coal, gas, nuclear, wind and sun ect. I was amazed to find out that we use an extra 250 GW of power on top of this for gas central heating and petrol transport. So if power stations are about 1GW, to cover our needs we would need another 250 power stations. That is how much power we are using and how much pollution we are making. The phrase that comes to mind is that we are greedy little piggies with our heads well and truly stuck in the sand. Even if we don't do anything about it and ruin our ecology and planet, what happens when the oil and gas run out ? We may be happy for the odd Thorium reactor then !
