Nearly five hundred locals and employees gather as ~50 people, mostly outsiders, rally against the FTAA renewal of OceanaGold.
Our demonstration was neither paid nor organised by the company. We got together just this morning upon learning that there will be anti-miners coming and we refuse to be quiet and listen to their nonsense.
They say we were motivated by greed, but I wonder which is greedier - to fight for the thousands of directly impacted families, or to pursue the interests of politicians and a few people wanting to milk the business for money?
More than our employment, we fight for the development of our host barangay and its neighbouring communities. We fight for the locals so their kids won’t have to walk for hours just to go to school. We fight for their elders so they won’t die on the road when they’re sick. We fight for the hundreds of scholars so they could continue with their studies. We fight because we know we are compliant to the law. WE FIGHT BECAUSE WE KNOW, WE ARE MINING RESPONSIBLY.
Once again, we shout:
#yestoOGPIFTAArenewal
#yestoOceanaGold
#yestoresponsiblemining
#nagkakaisangkatutubo
Remove the illegal barricade!
