I'm Getting Serious About Playing Canopy Through AcreageI've posted before about my intention to playing Canopy thorugh Acreage, but the time may be now.
I've had a price target of $5 US to buy quite a bit of Acreage and it closed at $5.02 on Friday and at the same time CGC closed at $21.89 US. Bernie is now in the clear lead and the Democratic choice. He has vowed to legalize pot in his first 100 days in office (not quite sure how realistic or possible that is, but the point is he wants to legailize it). Also, Trump may get desperate and beat him to the punch with the Safe Banking Act and States Act.
So if you do the math and get .5818 shares of Canopy for every Acreage share, based on Friday's closing, and using 10,000 shares:
cost to buy Acreage: 10,000 shares X $5.02/share + $50,200 US
converted to Canopy: 10,000 shares = 5,818 shares X $21.89 = $127,400 US (over 150% gain)
I realize that as US legalization becomes more of a reality, the price of Acreage and Canopy will be more closely correlated to the .5818, but it will be at a higher price so it's more of a benefit because it will still be 5,818 shares at a higher CGC price (this is strictly an exhange of shares, not cash or any cash value). I aslo realize that the value of the CDN$ will also come to play when I buy or sell, but the profit should outweigh any foreign currency losses. Acreage also seems to be moving forward in a positive way on its own with the recent financing, authority to sell rec. pot in more states, selling Canopy products, etc.
In addition, the CDN$ was up higher on Friday and all my purchases are in several tax sheltered accounts (e.g. RRSP) so no tax consequences. It may now be time to pull the trigger.
