Media

MediaIt's the job of the medical authorities not to minimize anything.  It's the job of the media to sensationalize everything.  Do I care if people catch the virus, yes, am I worried about this virus anymore than a cold or flu, no.  Not that I'm an authority on this "crisis" but it seems like overkill, probably the sensationalization of it is hurting people more than the virus.

During H1N1 in 2009 the hospital authority where I lived and worked purchased warehouse space and put enough equipment and supplies to cope with a pandemic.  Daily and weekly meetings occurred for close to 6 months to discuss scenarios.  World travel was affected.  Same thing as is happening today but probably on a smaller scale.

The media seems to have changed since then.  Like, do I really care that the Raptors were in the NBA finals and then they won and then players were drafted to other teams, on every Canadian channel it was the "news" for months.  Hype, get people excited.

It doesn't matter how devastating this virus is going to be as much as the perception of how devastating it will be.  We're all in for the ride.
