When Sproutly was founded by Adam Jaques in Eugene Oregon, it was a Weed farm. One attribute that made it enticing was the highly developed skills of Adam. As a geneticist, he was able to create strain/terpene specific plants.
So fine tuned that he was able to develop specific strains for victims suffering from specific illnesses. See articles below, Do it for Frank and Leni’s Law.
Stone Ridge Exploration Corp executed the reverse took over of Sproutly which was then a weed farm with plant strains created by a master geneticist. IMO, I believe that was the product differentiation which they believed was worth the play. Not sure if Adam did or was to remain on as the chief geneticist. However, it did not last too long if he did. Not sure if all, but at least some of the strains appear to have been sold and or remained with $PR. I reached out to him a while back.
This is a guess, but Do it for Frank and Leni’s law garnered a lot of public awareness in the US. Dr Sen was in the field of pharma/cancer research/APP technology and most likely heard of this new strain specific treatment which was right up his alley. Strain/terpene specific plants to deliver his APP. Quite a marriage in the making.
Fast forward to $PR buying IBC. These plant creations were extremely important. Pharma took a back seat as too much red tape would have been required to enter the pharma industry as their initial focus and first product creation.
The MJ boom came at the right time along with edibles and beverages. This was the perfect platform to move on. Hence, the shift from LP to beverages/edibles. The plant strains remain as assets. Seeds are extremely valuable. Ask Monsanto, DuPont and Johnson and Johnson.
IMO, without the plants, this present play out may never have happened. I suspect the plants at THC will surely be used for $PR specific products and generic over supplied and readily available LP plants for the JV(2.5 years worth and inexpensive). Dolo saw that coming and mentioned this play in a very early interview.
Caliber is simply a side gig. However, it is a crucial part of the plan for the much needed early quick revenue. They have the licencing, they have the plants, it only makes sense to sell the flower and generate the revenue to help keep them afloat.
