For those of us who’ve worked in the market for a long time, you’ve been through days like this before and you know this won’t be the last time, but that’s little comfort as you actually go through them," said Chris Zaccarelli, chief investment officer for Independent Advisor Alliance.
Investors with portfolios attuned to their specific investment goals are "in the best possible shape," Zaccarelli added.
The guidance for long-term investors remains intact – do not panic. As the uncertainty persists, the market frenzy will continue, perhaps for weeks, perhaps for months. But long-term investors must think in terms of years or decades,” said Greg McBride, chief financial analyst at Bankrate.com.
Markets hate uncertainty, and there is plenty of that to go around at the moment. But as quickly as stocks can fall, they can also rebound.
"No one knows when that comes and you don’t want to be sitting on the sidelines when that happens," McBride said.
