We are taking the virus very seriously at OceanaGold. Our office workers are asked to work from home and practice social distancing. We have stopped all travel for our workforce unless required for urgent purposes and if anyone does travel, they need to self-isolate for 14 days. We have continuous communications with all employees and have a lot of information on our internal website including how to practice proper social distancing.
At the operational level, we have even more strict practices. For example at Haile, EVERY employee and contractor is screened before entering the site and the main part of this screening is testing temperatures using a temperature gun. The screening also includes understanding travel history and medical history of close relatives. Non-essential employees work from home. The leadership teams are split up on two week rotations to ensure leadership continuity. There are no large team meetings and each shift is broken up into much smaller groups and kept in appropriate distances from each other. Each machinery is disinfected twice per shift and other facilities including plant regularly disinfected.
We are supporting our workforce through this difficult time and are in regular communications with everyone. We plan on updating the market with our Covid-19 response through our website and social media.
With respect to the Philippines, we are also implementing stringent practices at Didipio to address the virus. The entire island of Luzon is on lock down including Manila. The government’s primary focus is understandably on dealing with the virus however, there is some engagement between government officials regarding our renewal. There are no updates to provide at this stage on the status of the renewal.
