Canadians bought about $154 million worth of cannabis in January, an increase of 4.3 per cent from the prior month, according to Statistics Canada. At those figures, the country's legal recreational cannabis industry is operating at an annualized revenue rate of $1.85 billion. Six out of 10 provinces reported monthly sales advances in January with Saskatchewan leading all provincial gains with a near 26 per cent rise in sales. Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Pablo Zuanic calls the sequential monthly sales growth as "disappointing" but expects activity to increase as more stores come online.
