Nathan is just a guy that had a dream, and maybe he shot too high too fast but I don't think he was out to screw anyone.  Rumor has it, he was paying wages out of his own money and the company was on track to take off.  The timing would make perfect sense for someone to want to push him out and take over after he did all the hard work.
