Newer LIDAR's can operate at higher altitudes and faster sample rates. When the cloud base it too low, you can't use it. So the older unit works better at lower altitudes. But then it could be the new one is just more buggy. Older LIDAR's have more of the bugs worked out. Digital Aerial Surveying systems are a pain in the butt to keep working correctly. Million dollar set-ups not including the airplane.
