Challenging each other intelligently promotes growth for all, theoretically, if one decides to listen. Anyway CANDY you asked for counterpoints to one of your recent posts, so here's what I'm putting down...it's important to understand history to be able to have a chance at predicting the future.
CANDY,
There have been Levy family businesses since the early 1960’s, when Cecil, John’s father went door to door in a valley town [Dundas] showing them how good the reception was on his Community Antenna Television system [CATV].
It wasn't long before people were chasing his installers down the street to be installed. The business grew locally and was eventually bequeathed to John, who grew the business from Hamilton to Grimsby to Georgetown to Fergus, through a series of acquisitions over the years, easily tripling the footprint.
He also was one of the first to deploy a hybrid-fiber co-axial system, built out to 750MHz [state-of the art at the time] and one of the first to deploy an automated Pay-Per-View [PPV] system.
He was also the first to have a ticker-tape sports [character generated] channel allocated to cable TV line-up both on the locally owned system, as well as, a number of other provinces [Sportscope which eventually morphed into Headline Sports] .
He also was way ahead of the curve with respect to LGBT programming with the launch of his television channel called PrideVision…I think you can get the rest of his CV on Wikipedia.
So here’s what I know from a personal and intimate business relationship with the family and John:
- He’s and avant-garde businessman
- Some business ideas were way ahead of the curve and took time for adoption
- No business failed
- Each business grew
- There was blood sweat and tears along the way with learning curves for some of the aforementioned initiatives, but he was resolute, pressed forward and always won
- Each business was very successful
- Each business sold at a healthy profit [note: Cogeco for his cable system and Rogers for the Score]
- They will always secure funding, if necessary…it’s never been a problem historically
- The will figure out GGR and NGR with the help of their partners [ bet.works and PENN ]
- He’s working on leaving a legacy as his father had done for him
- He knows when to sell and always gets top-buck [if he ever decides to sell this, his homerun, his baby]
CANDY, if you had 350k shares at one point, you must have whole-heartedly believed in the business and the thesis…and the thesis and landscape are only beginning to open up. This team will iron out all the wrinkles soon enough my friend, as they continue to roll out into the states and eventually Canada.
I’ll be sorry to see you leave. I enjoy alternative views to test my own...and you'll miss out on a 5 bagger.
Good Luck
