Papua New Guinea has refused an application to extend mining at the company’s Porgera gold mine, Prime Minister James Marape said. The decision, which would have extended by 20 years Barrick's rights, was based on the recommendation of the country's mining advisory committee, Marape said in a statement. "In the best interests of the state, especially in lieu of the environmental damages, claims and resettlements issues, the Special Mining Lease will not be renewed," he said. Marape said that plans were to bring the mine into state control, without giving any financial details over how much the State might pay for it

Reminds me of my Tahoe symbol THO loss when Quatemalo depreived THO of its
mine and then gave it to PAAS pan american silver.
The video is a great gold bull assembly rally.
Almost competes with religion for celebrational intensity, excitement and letting
loose joy and frollicking. LOL !!!!!
not quite accurate Peep2
Similar in that there was political interference but Guatemala did not give the Escobal mine to PAAS
The mine was already closed when Tahoe owned it on orders from the government and it is still closed now after Tahoe was taken over by PAAS.
Paas bought Tahoe knowing the mine was closed and that they might have problems to resolve before reopening it if ever.
So you are correct that there was interference from the government but not that they took the mine away from Tahoe and gave the it to PAAS it was purchased as an inoperative mine.
