RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:A day of mourning for our Canadian Friends Yea, Canadian health care works very well. I injured myself snowboarding, lacerated 75% of my spleen, chipped my lung w/ a cracked rib & bruised my kidney. Was driven to the nearest city w/ hospital via ambulence that could adequately care for me. I was in the intensive care unit for a week, recieved 2 blood transfusions to deal with internal bleeding and was monitored 24/7 as to whether surgery would be needed. They kept me around for another 2 weeks after things started to improve enough to not be hooked up to monitoring equipment, to make sure no complications arose while my body dealt with the blood that was still loose in my body. Total bill was around $600. Canadian health care system worked pretty well. I also recall the time when I had chickenpox + an asthma attack when I was a child, taken into an isolation unit and put on a ventilator, again next to no hospital bill.
Now, anecdotally one of my GF's bosses is from the states and was complaining about the wait for wrist surgery. Unfortunately for him, we prioritize people who are in LIFE critical situations and don't care if you can throw your money at a problem to get priority. I've broken my wrist and shoulder and had to wait while in pain because others with more pressing situations, just because you're in pain doesn't mean you are an urgent case.
