Lets get on with it. Ivonne Gonzlez, representative of the Committee of Citizen Oversight Dignity Mining, explained that they sent a document to the Ombudsman, Carlos Alfonso Negrette, to intervene in defense of the rights of the inhabitants of the Santurbn pramo who continue to see how it is increasingly postponed the delimitation of the moor.
"State agencies cannot continue to harm our community in this way. They have kept us indefinite for more than a decade and now they have found a new excuse taking refuge in the coronavirus to continue putting off community work and making a decision, ”the document states .
"The communal social leaders of Soto Norte called on the ombudsman to resume the delimitation of the Santurbn paramo. There is a false image of the paramunos as ignorant peasants and that is not so. We want these hearings and in a practical way , we want the technological support that guarantees citizen participation, with distancing and biosecurity measures ”, explained Gonzlez.
In another section of the letter it says: “We cannot accept that the impossibility or failure of the use of efficient technological means that exist in the market today is predicted. This, with the simple argument that the calls to the exercise of participation are peasant communities. We peasants of the paramo are also Colombians, and most of us have a television, radio, cell phone or computer. ”
“We have the right, like other Colombians, to have access to better and more modern forms of telecommunication to interact with the State and with the world. We cannot be discriminated against in these times of crisis because we are peasants or rural inhabitants. Could it be that only the State will continue to function for the cities and for the capital of the Republic? ”States the document.
The constant impediments to the delimitation of the paramo are causing problems for the paramunos, since many of them do not know what to do with their land. Some want to sell and have not been able to do so until the delimitation is resolved, they do not know if they can do agriculture or small mining, that is why they are asking that the delimitation be resumed, although this initiative goes against what has been proposed in the Defense Committee of the Pramo de Santurbn.
