RE:avoca and timorThey are old mines dating back to the mid and late 1800's. Not far and Southwest of Kirkland Lakes Fosterville or Northwest of Lauriston. Here's a snippet! of some history.
The first goldfield in northwest Victoria resulted from the discovery of ore at Avoca, by a party of prospectors on their way to Bendigo, in September 1853. By the end of the year, 2,000 miners were working on the main Avoca Lead with the population increasing to 14,000 by June 1854.
